Stakeholders in the Nigerian health sector have been urged to forge a united action against Malaria with a view to eliminating the disease from the country.

Coordinator of National Malaria Elimination Programme , Dr. Perpetua Uhomoibhi, in a statement issued yesterday, said the call became necessary because the country needed concerted efforts to win the war against the scourge.

“The NMEP has made several concerted efforts in reducing morbidity and mortality rate due to malaria in the country through malaria vector control interventions and a lot of milestones have been achieved through several interventions.“Similarly, other disease vectors such as flies, bugs, fleas and cockroaches are being controlled in the country.

“In the bid to reinforce the efforts, the NMEP, in collaboration with Public Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with Olomitutu Kalt Limited is commencing trial of Aragon Insecticide for Malaria Vector Control in Nigeria,” she said. Uhomoibhi said the trial, an open label, controlled, multiple application, multi-centre design, would commence in Ebonyi and Niger states.
