The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria on Wednesday said the Federal Government had not shown willingness to end the spate of killings by the Boko Haram insurgents and herdsmen in the country.

The Catholic bishops, who stated this in a statement by their President, Augustine Akubeze, and Secretary, Camillus Umoh, said the failure of the government to arrest the criminals showed its insincerity and lack of commitment to protecting lives and property in the country.

It warned that should the insurgents and the Fulani terrorists succeed, the consequences would be grave not only for the West African sub-region, but also for Africa as a whole. The PUNCH observed that as a mark of mourning all Christians whom, they said, “have been victims of the most recent wave of violence against Christians,” the Catholic bishops directed the faithful to be dressed in black on Wednesday and offer prayers and penance for the repose of the souls of the victims.

The group said it was the moral responsibility of all arms of government to protect Nigerians, adding that without security, there would be no peace and without peace, there would be no development. Kukah, who led a procession of Catholic faithful in Sokoto on Wednesday round the metropolis to mark the Ash Wednesday, said, “The situation in the country where one cannot sleep with one’s eyes closed is worrisome.

Rehabilitating BokoHaram is a proof that the govt is OK with the way Nigerians are been killed by terrorist groups and kidnappers

That is what we have been saying since from 2010.

Your man Rev Mbaka is with them also. Tragic

Why should herdsmen carry guns? Yet licences of responsible Nigerians to own guns were withdrawn.

In the range of complacency and/or collusion me think.

That is the fact, even with news flying around that top govt officials are involved in the whole insurgency affair I will not be surprised if the Bishop is actually saying the truth, so far the govt is truly insincere in the so call fight against insurrgency.

Yes nah, in the words of the Army chief 'Burutai- The public has to accept repentant bokoharam ' If truly these are 'REPENTANT' why haven't they led the Nigeria military to where shekau at? Why release the captured instead of publicly tried and sentences pronounced on them.?

Incase you don't know.. MBuhari NGRPresident plans to rehabilitate the boko haram members, who will be recruited in the military

Una just dey wake up?

You didn’t say it well you must say what you mean to say without fear or favor. Failure to arrest culprits shows FG’s collaborations on killings of Nigerians Christians.

They never been. And will never be
