The Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council Of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, has said Nigeria needs a brand new constitution that will recognise its diversity. He said the #EndSARS protest had proved that Nigerians had bottled up emotions and they just used the opportunities provided by the protest to register their displeasure.
He however appealed to the youths to go off the streets, saying their voices had been heard and it was time for them to dialogue so that the gains of their struggles would not be wasted. The YCE scribe said, “The Yoruba Council of Elders is appealing to the justifiably angry youths all over the country to sheathe their swords and go off the streets and maintain peace.
“Nigerians share their pains and anguish in these challenging times, they must take their case to the negotiating table now. “Nigeria needs a new peoples’ constitution which will recognise the diversity of our country and return power to the federating units where Nigerians reside.“They must also not ethnicise the national problem and must refuse to be provoked to destroy our patrimony and proud heritage of our fatherland. Our infrastructure and other assets which our very patriotic forefathers built.
“The political leadership elite i.e the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and state governors must rise up and Initiate the process of righting all wrongs and correcting the injustice in the system immediately.”
⛔I will FOLLOW Back 💯%⛔
Buhari should tell us who ordered the LekkiMassacre and give us the names of the soldiers that shot at EndSars protesters.
Yes oo! The current one is ought to be abolished EndSARS
Who are the people to give the new constitution or to review the existing one? Won’t it be the people there now? Only if Nigeria can do away with Nigeria’s current leaders, whether by poisoning or by hanging, then we can now talk of a new constitution
The present constitution is a fraud. It's inadequate to address any of the myriads of ills bedevilling the country. Nigeria should borrow a leaf from Chile.
This is the problem with us: always throw out baby with bath water. No constitution will ever be perfect. Amend the present constitution and move forward.
New constitution without total restructuring of the Country will be an exercise in futility sir.
That is not the problem. The problem is enforcing the laws and strictly abiding to them. As long as those old cargoes are still there irrespective of the new or old constitution the result will still be the same.
Indeed, we need to review our constitution. The people are suffering and the minority in the nassnigeria are going home with millions! EndBadGovernmentinNIGERIA
Yess. It does.. total restructuring.
What a new constitution to be implemented by the same Political HOODLUMS.
