The ongoing kidnappings in the South-West should worry many people especially those aware of how safe the region was. The kidnap-for-ransom saga has assumed worrying proportions and everyone in the region should join hands to nip the situation in the bud. Eavesdropper is of the view that the South-West governors must see the situation as requiring urgent solution. It’s not the time to sit on the fence.
In 2019, on a Sunday evening, armed bandits kidnapped a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State along the Ife-Ibadan Expressway. It was learnt that the incident occurred between Asejire and Ikire town around 9pm on that day. The lecturer alongside his wife, it was gathered, was travelling from Lagos to Ife when armed men stopped their vehicle and abducted him. The lecturer who is an orthopaedic surgeon at the OAU later said he paid N5.
Also a farmer identified as Wole Agboola was kidnapped on his farm by gunmen in the Abaodo area, Olukitibi village, Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State. Reports noted that his abductors whisked him away after attacking him on his farm. The kidnappers were said to have worn army uniforms and invaded his farm located near the Kola Daisi University, Ibadan-Oyo Expressway. The hoodlums were said to be about six and bore guns and cutlasses.
