DisCos to Minister: TCN cannot wheel 7,000mw

The Association of Nigeria Electricity Distributors yesterday told the Minister of Power, Mamman Sale that the Transmission Company of Nigeria can only wheel 4,303mw and not 7,000mw.

ANED said according to the review by TCN, which is a government entity would indicate that the peak generation ever recorded in Nigeria is 5,375 MW, of which only 4,303 MW of energy was wheeled or transmitted by TCN to the DisCos. The same report, according to the association, also states that the capacity of the “last mile,” DisCo capacity, “…is about twice as high as the peak supply delivered by TCN to the respective distribution utilities .”

“In simple terms, the DisCos can only deliver the energy that is transmitted or wheeled to them by TCN, based on the amount generated. Of greater importance is the need, at a minimum, for a realignment of gas, generation, transmission and distribution capacities, that will provide the country with a level of consistent power supply. Any unsupported or inaccurate information amounts to deviation from this minimum and needless distraction from issues of sectoral urgency.

Nigeria’s Electricity Problem: FG vs. DISCOs By Reuben Abati | Sahara ReportersThe Buhari government simply needs to move beyond politics and sentiments. If President Buhari succeeds in solving the electricity supply conundrum in Nigeria, that alone will be enough legacy for his administration. For a writer of Reuben Abati's caliber to twit on electricity generation, transmission and distribution and get only one retwitt and 12 likes is probably and indication that readers don't buy his deliberate refusal to discuss the real issues.

Nigeria’s Electricity Problem: FG Vs. DisCos, By Reuben Abati - Premium Times OpinionIt seems to me that government needs to go beyond scapegoating, passing the buck, sentiments and politics, to addressing fundamental problems of the electricity sector. I took time to read Dr Abati. Summary of it is that govt should privatize the remaining assets of the old NEPA and all the problem of the electricity will be a thing of the past. My question is,the part of it that was privatized,of what value is it as of today looking at Discos?
