A non-governmental organisation, I.Y Kwache Foundation, has called on the Federal Government to declare a national annual tree-planting day to address the challenges of flood and drought brought on by climate change.

The foundation’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Iliya Kwache, made the call during the inauguration of its mass tree planting campaign in the Michika Local Government Area, Adamawa State, with the objective of planting 10,000 trees over the next five years in the council. Citing the floods that recently ravaged Germany and China, as well as heavy droughts and floods in Nigeria, Kwache noted that the Federal Government could not afford to overlook the threat of climate change.

He noted that whether as individuals, groups or a government, there was much to be done to mitigate global warming and climate change.
