The death toll of Friday night’s boat accident in Lagos has risen to six with nine persons still missing, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has said.It said seven persons were rescued alive from the accident that occurred around 8pm on the Ebute Ero -Ikorodu waterway.
ADVERTISEMENTFacts provided by LASEMA on Saturday night revealed there were 22 persons on the boat contrary to initial information released late on Friday.The boat, it was gathered carried 22 passengers instead of 14 and also embarked on the journey at nightfall, in violation of the ban on night trips on the waterway.
According to the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) of LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, the deceased were all females while three men and four women were rescued.He said rescuers suspended operation around 6:20pm on Saturday, adding that the search for the nine persons would continue in the morning.
