LEGAL luminary and philanthropist, Chief Wole Olanipekun, has described COVID-19 and the accompanying deep global recessions despite governments’ efforts as unrivaled spreader of poverty among nations, organisations and human beings in decades.

Olanipekun lamented that “the deep recessions triggered by the pandemic are expected to leave lasting scars through lower investment, an erosion of human capital through lost work and schooling, as well as a fragmentation of global trade and supply linkages”. The senior advocate spoke in his Ikere Ekiti hometown on Saturday while distributing cheques of N30,000 each to 100 elderly persons and widows; and N50,000 each to 100 youths and disabled persons under Wole Olanipekun Foundation’s Youth Empowerment and Aged/Widows Support Programme.

He had during the inauguration of the foundation in April distributed empowerment cheques to the first batch of 200 beneficiaries of the scheme comprising elderly persons, widows and youths to provide succour and ameliorate the sufferings of the poor masses.
