The Nigerian Correctional Service has announced the re-opening of custodial centres to admit all categories of inmates.

The Controller-General of Corrections, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said this was necessary to enhance access to justice and the administration of criminal justice in the country.

The service had stopped admitting new inmates as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19 infections in its facilities. But the NCoS in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesman, Austin Njoku, disclosed that only designated custodial centres with isolation units are to admit new inmates.

Allow people to move about freely nationwide. Enforcement of discipline is the only panacea to the spread of covid-19, not stay home. People should wear their face mask & wash their hands regularly as they move about. Relax the restrictions on free interstate movement now.
