Kano State Road Traffic Agency has impounded over 35 vehicles at various entry points into the state for violating the state border closure over COVID-19.

The Agency made the arrest after it identified bush routes used by defaulting motorists to access Kano from other states where a total number of 350 passengers coming into the state from neighbouring states were prevented from entering the state and forced to return to where they came from. It could be recalled that the Kano State Government had closed its borders from 12:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2020, with other states with the exception of vehicles carrying foodstuff and medicine into the state without passengers as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

‘’The Managing Director, KAROTA, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi reiterate that his agency would spare no driver who transports human passengers into the state within the period of lockdown by the state government which prohibit movement of people into and out of the state in order to curtail the outbreak of the coronavirus in the state,’’.

The statement, then urged travellers to remain where they are until Kano State Government lifts the ban so as not to expose themselves to untold hardship.
