Coronavirus has exposed weakness of national health systems -- WHO

The Director-General, WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, said this at a press conference on Thursday.

“We know that when health systems are overwhelmed, mortality from vaccine-preventable and other treatable conditions will increase dramatically,” he said.WHO recently published guidance on maintaining essential health services while responding to COVID-19.Mr Ghebreyesus said it was inspiring to hear from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Singapore about their experiences and the lessons they have learned.

“In the next day or two, we will reach more than one million confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, and 50,000 deaths,” he said.
