The spokesperson for the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, in this interview withreacts to the allegation by the Coalition of Northern Groups that the South-West supported the planned RevolutionNow protest in a bid to overthrow the current governmentCoalition of Northern Groups has alleged that the South-West supported the planned RevolutionNow protest to destabilise the country and overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, what is your reaction...
The CNG said the South-West had been the “biggest beneficiary” of this administration, do you agree with that? Since the group is expressing reservations over the motive of the brains behind the protest, can you relate with their reservation because they said the South-West supported it to overthrow the President?
The South-West has never fed on alliances. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo taught us self sufficiency and he had results to show when he was the Premier of the Western Region. That was when the Cocoa House in Ibadan was built and the first television station in Africa was founded in Western Nigeria, among many other things he did. It wasn’t an alliance that gave us those things. That is why we want the nation to revert to true federalism because we are not the type to rely on anybody to survive.
