of Africa Football has issued an official statement regarding the crisis that took place in the game Tunisia versus Mali game in the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday. The game went on smoothly, until the 85th minute, when everything became chaotic on the pitch, after referee Janny Sikazwe blew his full-time whistle five minutes earlier.

After that, a few seconds before the 90th-minute mark, the referee once again decided to end the game early without adding stoppage time, which sparked reactions among the Tunisian players and coaching staff. The situation got even more complicated later when CAF ordered the game to resume after the players had already left the pitch. Mali’s players returned to the pitch and appeared ready to play the final few minutes; however, the Tunisian side refused to restart the game.

CAF issued an official statement declaring they would be collecting official reports to make a decision regarding the match. “In relation to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations match between Tunisia and Mali played in Limbe on 12 January 2022, CAF is gathering all the necessary reports from the officials at the match.“At this stage, CAF is not in a position to make further comments until the responsible bodies indicate the way forward.”All rights reserved.
