The organic content of this editorial had been written before the retired soldier’s bombshell, which was widely reported yesterday. And so Umar’s love letter to the President only confirmed the constancy of truth at such a time as this: that the biggest trouble with the Buhari administration is the elephant in the room variously tagged as “lopsided appointments,” ‘‘nepotism,” “sectionalism”, ‘‘parochialism,’’ etc.
For clarity, the Section 14 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, provides in detail that: “the composition of the government of the federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in the...
The point at issue today, is that the subsisting constitutional provision has been honoured in the breach than in its observance by the Buhari-led administration. The federal system has been so bastardised that most of Buhari’s appointments had no recourse to either equitable distribution or merit. What is worse, even the composition of the Federal Character Commission itself has no regard for federal character.
Meanwhile, there are much more around Abuja to widen the eyebrow.
Yes indeed, unlike the Obasanjo & Jonathan’s governments that were fair & equitable in the distribution of federal appointments!
The Guardian now has a for Nepotism: BUHARI VIRUS.
Why disturb yourself over Buhari's Federal Character Politics? Nigeria can always divide we (the BiafraNation) will have our borders and you cannot enter just anyhow talk less of appointing just anybody in babariga attires. C'est finih.
The problem with Buhari, is simply he still sees Nigeria institutions leadership is bias towards educated Southerners,no matter how well qualified and experienced they are. He believes what he is doing is leveling the playing field.
Look back from the time of independence to date who benefited the most among the federating states,it is only then a fair assessment can be done, but I am sure that is not your editorial intention.
And yet they claim he fights corruption
