The Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria has embarked on indefinite strike action to protest the National Universities Commission’s requirement demanding that clinical lecturers must acquire a doctorate qualification in order for career progression in Nigerian university system.He said, “The decision of the NUC to embark on this policy direction without due attention to the consequences and implications is to say the least embarrassing.

“Consequently, we are left with no further choice than to withdraw our services from the universities with immediate effect.”

But then, this NuC response is twitterish “ We are not under MDCAN , we don ’ t work with pressure group , even ASUU which is our academic union does not negotiate with us , it is like negotiating with students to start asking them the exam or questions they want to answer .

You took 'fashioned' appreenticeship road to overtook a position with a lot of argument and now want to rob the essence of academia with fellowship. Too much guts!

The greediness that was not curtailed in the health field is seeming to attract itself in academics too. The basis of doctors argument on this is wack and selfish! Just as usual. I hope NUC won't key in to the groundless demands. FG should act too before patients are used as bait
