The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Sani, for attempting to defile a two-year-old girl in the Otukpo area of the state.
A human rights activist, Ukan Kurugh, told our correspondent that a vigilance group that arrested the suspect had started a negotiation with his family before the police arrived to take Sani. “So, on the day of the incident, when he visited again, she confidently left them in the parlour and went to wash her containers, which she used in packaging Zobo and Kunu Aya for sale. However, she had a premonition that something was wrong and decided to go inside to check her baby.
“A medical examination at the hospital revealed bruises and blood clots in her private parts. The suspect was apprehended by the vigilantes and confessed to the offence, claiming it was his first time. He attempted to run away when they noticed weed on him, but he was re-arrested by the vigilantes.”
