ICYMI: Bassey canvasses urgent renewable energy action in Africa | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News

Bassey, who canvassed urgent action on renewable energy revolution in Nigeria and Africa, pointed out that there was the urgent need to protect the environment, ensure livelihoods and energy access in view of the high gains from the environment.

The Executive Director of Health of Mother Earth Foundation , stated this yesterday in Benin City, Edo State, at the opening of a two-day conference on ecology, critical ways of protecting the environment and building power from the grassroots. The conference attracted participants and speakers from Ghana, Bolivia, Brazil, South Africa, Swaziland, the Philippines and United Kingdom.

“The mangrove ecosystems, which provide breeding grounds for fishes, are excellent for shoreline protection and support livelihoods, as well as for cultural expression. “Looking at the fast-disappearing mangroves in the Niger Delta and other parts of the world, we see a trend that deprives people access to energy and ecosystems that support local livelihoods, which ought to have helped to mitigate the impact of climate change,” he stressed.
