As we mark another milestone in our democracy, I want to use the opportunity to ask the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Muhammad, his plan for the youth.
It’s exactly two years now since he assumed duty as governor but there is no impact of his government on the youth. Since inception of office, no youth has ever been given a single slot in the name of political appointment or civil service job despite the high rate of unemployment in the state. We are all witnesses to the fact that the youth in Bauchi State contributed massively for his victory during the last governorship poll. Many had sleepless nights just to ensure a rigging-free election in all almost every polling booth within the state.
I know he witnessed all that the youths engaged themselves in during election; storming almost all of the state INEC offices right from the local government to state level all to ensure his victory at the polls.The youth sacrificed a lot hoping things would change when he emerged victorious. Now, it’s already two years but nothing has been put on the ground that looks like dividends of democracy apart from neglecting the youth despite their huge contributions during the election.
A majority of us thought that his administration would be far better than the last one, unfortunately, no change is on the ground yet. In fact, Bauchi youths have no idea where the administration is heading to. The state is not secure either let alone witness any change.It seems like the youth’s efforts and sacrifices made would be in vain.
