Awoniyi to equal best ever goal tally - Punch Newspapers

striker Taiwo Awoniyi could equal his best ever tally in all competition in a season if he scores for the Die Eisernen in their home clash against RB Leipzig at the An der Alten Forsterei stadium on Friday,Awoniyi, who is Union’s leading scorer this season with eight goals, has notched up 13 goals in 22 games in all competition.

The Nigerian striker’s best-ever tally in Europe since he arrived in 2015 was during the 2018/19 season when he scored 14 goals in 38 games while on loan at Belgian side KAA Gent. The former Liverpool striker scored seven league goals in 25 appearances, one in four Europa League qualifiers, two goals in the Belgian Cup and four other goals in the JPL Playoff II.

Friday’s encounter with Leipzig could also see Die Eisernen record their consecutive home win at home following their triumph in the Berlin derby against rivals Hertha Berlin two weeks ago. Union Berlin has been on a 21-match unbeaten home run in the Bundesliga until their defeat to Bayern Munich in October.The eight league goals place him third on the German Bundesliga’s scorer chart, behind Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Borusssia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland .All rights reserved.
