The constant calls and promises of cash rewards from top government functionaries and prominent Nigerians distracted the Super Eagles which contributed to their ultimate defeat and exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, a former goalkeeper of the Super Eagles has said.

Barely six hours before the game, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari , made a video call to the team. Idah maintained that when people who are not part of the coaching team are allowed to address players during halftime, promising them cash rewards, the players get distracted. “We can’t have the President of the NFF addressing the players in the second half. That is not his responsibility. We can’t have the CBN governor addressing the players at halftime. That is not his responsibility. We can’t have the owner of Air Peace addressing the players at halftime. What time will the coach have?” Idah asked.

Excuses

What about otedola?

Having those that are not among the technical crew address the squad at half time is totally wrong... but I don't see why that should be attributed to the defeat. In football is either u win or loose is as simple as that, maduka did a great job. Anybody can let in that goal

Nothing look sweet like a Season fruits and vegetable. Sweet agbalumo is in season.

Yes they did too much Aseju 🙄

Na Buhari

Abeggy which distraction, not a distraction when playing underdogs, we finally met a strong team now distraction is d cause , it tied their leg shey ? When did motivating a team to go for the best turn distraction. Tunisia was better and they deserve it. One main test we lost.

Twitter please give us a room to use voice note here, no be everybody dey fit type English correctly.I get swear for some people but I no fit write am how I go take talk am…..

Too many distractions jare. Money here money there. President wants to speak and all that crap. When those things were not on ground, they played with their heart. They should stop all these money crap. It doesn't motivate players. It rather makes them lose focus.

Confirm

Buhari called them on phone

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So long as sentiment will continue to reign in our squad's selection, Nigeria soccer will never progress. But in the 90s when players were drawn from all parts of the country Nig compete with like of Italy, Germany etc

💯

Let's all rest over this Afcon of a thing, and stop blaming players, this is football, is always WDL Manchester city was better than Chelsea Last season, but Chelsea won Madrid and won the champions league, let's stop blaming players and encourage them more

He's very right! I have never seen such thing being done anywhere(allowing government officials and the so-called rich men to address players at half time

Could be true..we move regardless.

He's right!!!

How did they distract them ?

Which one is government? Say MBuhari
