It stated this at the launch of a report titled, ‘Making Judicial Appointments Reform Work’, held in Abuja. Project Director of the group, Deji Ajare, said the November 2014 adoption of a new guideline for appointing judicial officials was to promote better transparency. He, however, regretted that the implementation has been “a different cup of tea” for NJC.
He said: “NJC, headed by the Chief Justice and other judicial authorities, have consistently flouted the guidelines by failing to observe procedure that promotes accessibility, fairness, merit and transparency, as well as offering a level playing field for qualified persons. “They have drawn us backwards to status quo ante by failing to ensure that the spirit and letter of the guidelines are rigorously and conscientiously followed and enforced.”
