The family of ex-Senator Nelson Effiong, who was abducted last month in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has debunked his rumoured release and death.

Effiong who represented Eket Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly was abducted on Sunday, September 5 by suspected gunmen who stormed his sit-out joint along Oron Road, Uyo and whisked him away. But speaking with journalists on Saturday, the ex-senator’s younger brother, Prince Effiong described the death rumour and his purported release as fake.

“I have heard the rumour that he has been killed. He is alive. He has not been killed. When somebody die, there is no way you can hide it. Also, he has not been released. The family is also saying that he has not been released.“Tomorrow will make it almost two months since he was taken hostage.” There has been growing concern especially from his country home, Oron, about the senator’s prolonged incarceration. All rights reserved.
