UK court denies Ekweremadus bail, adjourns trial to July 7

For alleged child trafficking and organ harvesting, a United Kingdom (UK) court, has remanded Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice Ekweremadu in police custody till July 7, 2022.

The couple, which appeared before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court over conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child, were also denied an administrative bail pending the next sitting in July.

Metropolitan police, in a statement, confirmed that the couple was charged with conspiring to arrange to bring a child to the UK to harvest organs in their home country, Nigeria.

They are both charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

Police, however, said the child has been safeguarded but did not disclose the gender or the age of the child or the location of the arrests.

However, after former the duo were denied bail by an Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court, a letter by the senator requesting a British visa for a 15-year-old organ donor for his daughter, has emerged.

Dated 28 December 2021, the letter stated that the said boy would be donating a kidney to his daughter Sonia.

The document reads partly, “David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital London and I will be providing the necessary funding.”

Although the visa letter also revealed the identity of Ekweremadu’s kidney donor, the age of the would-be-donor has raised dust in the public domain.
