Two fraudsters, Muftau Adeyemo and Hezekiah Oladehi, have narrated how they pretend to be old herbalists to dupe people under the pretext of offering spiritual solutions to their problems.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State for duping a businesswoman.

Adeyemo and Oladehi were paraded by the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ocheja, at the corps’ headquarters in Osogbo.

The 26-year-old Adeyemo who claimed that he trained as a furniture maker, confessed that he connived with Oladehi to scam the woman and obtained money from her with a promise to assist her spiritually to improve her business.

Adeyemo further said he started duping people because he could not raise start-up money for his furniture making trade, adding that he had defrauded many people before he got into trouble after obtaining money from the woman after he failed to help her spiritually as he promised her.

He confessed that, “I reside in Ile-Ife. I am married with a kid. I learnt furniture making after my secondary school, but when I didn’t get money to start my own shop, I decided to engage in illegal activities.

“I was into Yahoo Yahoo business before I learnt the act of obtaining money fraudulently through a brother who lives near my house in Ile-Ife. I do the business together with Oladehi.

“We normally call our victims on phone and pretend we are old herbalists who can solve their problems. Our last victim wanted her business to boom and I told her to send money to my account, promising to prepare a charm that would attract more customers to her shop.”

The NSCDC commandant said the suspects would be charged to court.
