FRSC plans radar guns as 300 killed in 2021 Ogun crashes

FRSC boss, Boboye Oyeyemi

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, has said over 300 lives were lost in various road accidents in the state in 2021.

The Public Education Officer, FRSC, Ogun State, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Okpe explained that 1,200 people were involved in the road accidents, adding that over 200 vehicles were affected.

She noted that speed violation accounted for over 77 per cent of the accidents.

The FRSC official revealed that Sienna vehicles, also referred to as space buses, had high involvement in the crashes.

Okpe said, “The year 2021 was characterised by an upsurge in road traffic crashes in Ogun State.

“Against this backdrop, the FRSC in Ogun has initiated plans to reduce road traffic crashes. The command will deploy radar guns for speed detection and control.

“We will also sustain the enforcement of installation of speed limiting devices in commercial vehicles as a whole and by extension Sienna vehicles, which have been observed to have high involvement in crashes.

“The enforcement, which is scheduled to take effect as soon as possible, will be collaboratively carried out with other sister agencies like the Nigerian Army, the police, among others.”
