AFCON 2021: Algeria eliminated after 3-1 defeat to Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast on Thursday eliminated Algeria from the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Goals from Franck Kessie, Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Pepe ensured Ivory Coast defeated the defending champions in Cameroon.

Sofiane Bendebka’s late goal for Algeria could not save The Desert Warriors from elimination.

The result means Ivory Coast top Group E with 7 points from 3 games, while Algeria finished bottom with 1 point.

Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea are now through to the AFCON last-16.

Equatorial Guinea finished in second position with 6 points after beating Sierra Leone 1-0.
