Works top as Diri presents N310.7bn Bayelsa 2022 budget

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, on Wednesday, presented a budget of N310.72bn for the 2022 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for consideration and passage.

The 2022 Appropriation Bill tagged ‘Budget of sustainable growth’ is N19bn lower than the 2021 budget of N329.03bn.

While works and infrastructure was allocated a lion share of N51bn, agriculture got N12bn, education N4bn, health N4bn, finance N3bn, information N1.5bn and special projects, N1bn.

Also, trade, industry and investment got N500m, communication, science and technology N500m, transport N1.5bn, water N600m, culture and tourism N500m, Ijaw national affairs N1bn, power N1.5bn, budget and economic planning N500m, lands, housing and rural development N1bn and youths and sports N500m.

A breakdown of the planned expenditure showed that personnel cost would gulp N67.413bn, running cost N70.57bn, consolidated revenue fund charges, pension and gratuity, G32 council areas, federal deductions, debt repayment etc N61.755bn and capital expenditure, N110.98bn.

Diri said that the estimates were consistent with the parametres of the state’s 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the Fiscal Strategy Paper earlier approved by the assembly.
