World’s most expensive team: €227m Eagles ranked 21st in the world

Nigeria’s national team the Super Eagles have been ranked the 21st most valuable international team globally and the third most valuable in Africa.

The Eagles have majority of their players in Europe’s lucrative top five leagues, making them one of the world’s most valuable teams with a total value of €226.65m.

According to transfermarkt, the three-time African champions have a squad that contains Wilfred Ndidi, the most valuable player in the team at €60m, Victor Osimhen, who is valued at €50m, Alex Iwobi with a market value of €22m, while Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu and Samuel Chukwueze are all valued at €20m.

It makes the Eagles the third most valuable team on the continent, while Ivory Coast are the most valuable African team and 14th in the world with a value of €321.38m, followed by Senegal, with a market value of €299m.

AC Milan’s Franck Kessie is Ivory Coast’s most ranked player with a €55m market value and is closely followed by Wilfred Zaha (€45m) with Arsenal Nicholas Pepe completing the top three with a value of €35m.

Sadio Mane is the highest-ranked player in the Senegal squad with a market value of €85m and is followed by Kalidou Koulibaly, who is valued at €48m and Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy (€25m).

The Nigeria squad value meant a drop of €13.13m compared to the squad value of €239.78m in 2020, but it betters the €219.95m worth in 2019.
