Panel uncovers 612 ‘ghost’ workers in Bayelsa primary schools

NO fewer than 612 ghost workers have been discovered by the Bayelsa State Government in the payrolls of primary schools.

The Chairman, Committee on the Review of Grade Levels and Steps of Local Government and Primary School Staff, Mr Timipre Seipulou, made this known while submitting the committee’s report to Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in Government House, Yenagoa, on Monday.

This was contained in statement on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi.

It quoted Seipulou as saying that the 33-member committee, which was inaugurated in April 2021, reviewed a total of 14,258 cases in the various local government areas.

He said the figure comprised 7,207 primary school teachers, 5,893 council employees and 1,189 health workers.
