An American donor, MAP International of United State (US), has donated medical consumables worth N6 billion to the Bauchi State Government for distribution to health care centres across the state.
Speaking while receiving the drugs, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed appreciated MAP International USA and UPS for their remarkable support to his administration.
He assured stakeholders that the state government would distribute the donated medicine to secondary and tertiary health care facilities in the state for timely and appropriate utilisation.
The governor directed the State Ministry of Health and its agencies to set up a strong committee to ensure equitable distribution and rational utilization of the medicine to the target beneficiaries as failure to do that will attract appropriate disciplinary action.
“This is an important life-saving medicine that is rarely available in pharmacies and medicine stores in Nigeria, because of its cost and increased demand globally.”
“Our colleagues in the medical profession have confirmed to us that this medicine has proven efficacy in the treatment of life-threatening heart diseases,” he said.
According to him, his administration from its inception, prioritized the wellbeing of the citizens of the state by providing them with equitable, accessible and affordable health care services.
Governor Mohammed said to further strengthen the state’s health system, his administration convened a health summit where stakeholders deliberated and identified major challenges in the sector.
The governor said the state government had recently awarded contract for the renovation of 14 General Hospitals with accommodation to improve staff retention in addition to the construction and renovation of health centres.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Multilateral, Isah Saleh, said the donation from MAP International USA is part of the humanitarian support of the organization to the state government.
Saleh acknowledged the commitment of Governor Bala Mohammed in establishing a long-term partnership between his administration and MAP International USA.
