The Director, General Services, at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Emmanuel Attah, has charged members of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to champion the revival of sports in Nigeria even as he pledged to support the annual SWAN week.

Attah, who made this remark while presenting trophies, balls and cash to the association in his office in Abuja on Wednesday, said our sports activities like the SWAN Week had declined in recent years and needed to be revived.

The former Super Eagles coordinator when Nigeria won the AFCON in 2013 and qualified for the World Cup in Brazil disclosed that his donations were in his capacity as a friend of SWAN.

“I want you to use these items as a springboard to reviving your Swan Week competitions and for you to help in the development of sports in the country.

“All hands must be on deck to regain our lost glories,” the former youth international footballer was quoted as saying in a statement by the Secretary-General of FCT SWAN, Chris Onokpegu.

Responding, the chairman of the association, Comrade Bunmi Haruna, thanked Mr Attah for his kind gesture and acknowledged his contributions to the development of sports in the territory and Nigeria at large.

According to him: “You have contributed so much to sports, especially football and we can’t forget in a hurry your contributions during the exploits of the Super Eagles on their way to 2013 AFCON victory in South Africa.”

“We want to commend you, late Stephen Okechukwu Keshi and the crew for the wonderful job you did for Nigeria.
