No fewer than 1.5million candidates are currently sitting for this year’s West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which commenced on August

Permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arch Sonny Echono, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday, during an inspection tour to some schools in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.

Echono who visited Federal Government Girls College, Bwari and Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse, commended the smooth conduct of the examination across the country.According to him, the examination is holding in 19,000 centers across the nation. He said aside from the disruptions witnessed by candidates in the South-East zone, where some candidates were stopped from writing their exams, he adjudged the conduct of the 2021 WASSCE generally as peaceful and stress-free.

“We are very pleased that all around the country, exams are going on peacefully. We have a total of over 19,000 exams centres across the country over 1.5miillion candidates registered for their exams and beside the disruptions we had on Sept 13th in the South-East where some of our candidates were stopped from doing the exams, it is a peaceful and stressful examination,” he said.

Echono also said the Ministry has put in place a tolerant policy on examination malpractice to ensure credibility in the system. “We are complying with all the standard and ethics required of an examination. We are pursuing very hard all the cases and incidents of malpractice, we have a very tolerant policy.
