Veterans Day events include a pair of solemn ceremonies, a downtown parade and an all-day bash that will feature UH-60 Black Hawk flyovers.
San Antonio, known as Military City USA, is preparing for yet another big salute to veterans on Saturday. The San Antonio has three installations under Joint Base San Antonio. JBSA-Randolph, JBSA-Lackland and JBSA-Fort Sam Houston make up the largest joint base in the nation. Collectively, the bases are San Antonio’s No. 1 employer, with 79,340 military personnel, civilian workers and contractors. The city is also home to one of the largest communities of veterans in the U.S.
Is Austin a better place than San Antonio for veterans to start a business? The tributes on Saturday will start with the traditional Veterans Day service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with a musical prelude at 9:30 a.m. performed by the the 323rd Army Band that will be followed by a ceremony that will include the swearing-in of new American citizens. Retired Marine Capt. Queta Rodriguez will be the keynote speaker. That ceremony will be followed at 1:30 p.m.
