The state claimed that Facebook ’s “tag suggestions” feature ran afoul of Texas law prohibiting companies from collecting biometric data from customers with their consent. The company scanned the faces of everyone in photos posted on the site and used facial recognition technology to suggest users to tag in those pictures.

” BACKGROUND: Texas sues Facebook parent company over use of facial recognition technology “Any abuse of Texans’ sensitive data will be met with the full force of the law,” Paxton said in a statement touting the settlement. Meta did not admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
