A South Korean company that supplies parts for electric automaker Tesla plans to build a $17 million plant in northern Hays County that could eventually employ 350 workers, local economic development officials say. Futronic USA, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Futronic , intends to acquire a property in Buda for its first U.S. facility, according to the Buda Economic Development Corporation and the Greater San Marcos Partnership , a regional economic development organization.
Tesla to lay off nearly 2,700 Austin employees as it slashes global workforce Futronic, which makes transmission and powertrain parts, is a supplier for Tesla, which is headquartered in Travis County. Buda, a city of about 16,000, is about 20 miles from Tesla’s Giga Texas manufacturing facility, “making us perfectly positioned for Tesla suppliers like Futronic,” said Jennifer Storm, CEO of Buda Economic Development Corporation.
