Venom is one of Marvel's darkest anti-heroes, but he still has a desire to protect the innocent, and this desire comes from a dark place.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT There's no denying that Venom first started out as one of the most brutal Spider-Man villains around, but over time he's grown to be a protector of the innocent. Some people may wonder what prompted this transformation, and it turns out the reason is far too dark for any of Sony's Venom movies. Eddie Brock admits the reason he feels compelled to protect innocent people, and it's a remarkably bleak one.
Readers were shown exactly where Eddie's desire to protect innocent people comes from in Venom #10 by Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, JP Mayer, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles. This story sees Eddie Brock explaining his past to his son Dylan, which involves the fact Eddie was in a car accident when he was a teenager. He had stolen his dad's car and was rushing to return it before his dad came home when, in his drunken hurry, he ran over and killed a neighborhood kid.
Eddie was overcome with guilt and wanted to confess to the crime, but his father, a rich and respected member of the community, beat Eddie until he agreed to plead not guilty. Eddie was able to get off with no repercussions, not even a mark on his permanent record. Eddie Brock Had Blood on His Hands Before He Became Venom When he first appeared in comics, Venom was the dark opposite of Spider-Man and one of his absolute worst villains.
While Venom is firmly an anti-hero, his desire to be a hero at all as opposed to an outright villain comes from what his father put him through. Eddie was a stupid teenager and killed an innocent child by mistake, and Eddie wanted to do the right thing and face his punishment. Instead, his father refused to let him, brutally beating him until he promised to plead not guilty.
