The swoosh of a perfect basketball swishing through the net is music to Mariyah Saldana’s ears - even though she can’t actually hear it.
Skyline High School graduate and USA Deaf Basketball player Mariyah Saldana is fundraising to attend the World Deaf Basketball Championship in Buenos Aires in July 2024. The swoosh of a perfect basketball swishing through the net, the squeak of the shoes on the court, and even the cheers from her parents watching the game - Mariyah Saldana can't hear any of it.
“I really wanted to get out there,” says Saldana, 19, through an interpreter. “I want that new experience playing basketball in other countries.”
