Sha’Carri Richardson is headed to Paris after winning the women’s 100-meter at Olympic trials.Paris will be a chance for redemption for missing out on the 2020 Olympics. Richardson won the trials that year but wasn't allowed to compete after she tested positive for THC. Richardson, one of the U.S.’ biggest track and field stars, won the 100 meters with a time of 10.71 seconds at the Olympic trials at Hayward Field on Saturday. It was the fastest women’s 100 time in the world this year.
Richardson finished with a time of 10.86 in her semifinal heat and ran a 10.88 in the opening round Friday, the fastest of any of the 34 sprinters. Her time was especially impressive considering she stumbled out of the starting block. Richardson also claimed gold in the 4x100 relay, as well as bronze in the 200 meters at the world championships.
Another gold medal favorite, Noah Lyles, will advance to the men’s 100-meter semifinals Sunday night. He won his first-round heat Saturday with a time of 9.92.
