Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
Safford police officers responded to the area of Relation Street and U.S. Highway 191 at 9:55 a.m. for a report of a dispute between a man and a woman. The man, later identified as Steven Stone, had a firearm and allegedly displayed the weapon, police said.
An officer gave Stone commands to de-escalate the situation but Stone did not comply. Stone allegedly brandished his weapon at the officer, police said. The officer then shot at Stone, hitting him.
