Randolph's Sophia Bendet shatters record in defending UIL Class 3A state cross country title
ROUND ROCK – Randolph senior Sophia Bendet recorded a no-doubter in defending her Class 3A girls championship at the UIL cross country championships with a record-shattering performance. Bendet claimed the state title by clocking 10 minutes, 40.5 seconds on the 3,200-meter course at Old Settlers Park . Bendet broke the previous 3A course record by 19 seconds.
” Bendet was happy to see Milam earned a podium spot after placing fourth last year and ninth two years ago. “I know she’s been working so hard for this,” Bendet said. “She finally accomplished that podium spot, which is a goal she really wanted. We’re hoping we can carry this momentum going into track season.” The Ro-Hawks are three-time defending state champions in Class 3A track and field. Smithson Valley rolled to the 5A girls championship with 54 points. Lovejoy was second with 97.
