FILE - Parts of the Francis Scott Key Bridge remain after a container ship collided with a support Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Baltimore. A third temporary channel in the Port of Baltimore opened late Friday, allowing more vessels and goods to flow intoThe passageway was opened by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as it continues to clear away the wreckage of the Dali, the container ship that collided with the bridge, as well as the twisting metal and chunks of concrete from the bridge itself.

Officials in the Key Bridge Response team, or unified command, which includes the U.S. Coast Guard as well as the Maryland Departments of Energy and Transportation, hope to open a fourth channel by the end of the month that would allow the port to resume commercial activities close to levels it saw pre-bridge collapse.

Meanwhile, U.S. and Maryland authorities learned that the Dali, which was headed to Sri Lanka from Baltimore, experienced apparent electrical issues before departing the port, a source with knowledge of the subject told The Associated Press.
