Petco Park has become a launching pad, mostly for opposing teams; Padres starting pitchers are slumping
Balls keep reaching the seats at Petco Park. More often, off the bats of teams in town for just a few days. The Phillies continued to hit home runs en route to an 8-6 victory that completed a series sweep on a beautiful Sunday in downtown San Diego for everyone except the Padres, who lost a season-high fourth consecutive game and fell to 6-10 at Petco Park this season.
Visitors have hit 26 of the 47 homers there this season. Both of Stott’s home runs came after Nick Castellanos walked before him. The first gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Padres had not led in 21 innings — and had trailed in all but one of those — when they came to bat in the third. Six pitches into the inning, it looked like the woefulness would continue.
