Teoscar Hernandez belts grand slam against Enyel De Los Santos, who has been part of a leaky bullpen over the past two weeks
More people than had ever been inside Petco Park for a baseball game witnessed what has become a familiar sight for the Padres, as a close, well-pitched game unraveled quickly on Saturday night. That is how it happens when a bullpen melts down. This one occurred earlier in the game than other recent debacles, but it involved one of what have become the usual suspects.
Saturday was the fifth time in Waldron’s eight starts that the Padres have scored fewer than two runs while he was in the game. In all, they have scored runs in the games he has started, and nine of those came in two games. The right-hander mostly tamed his knuckleball and held the Dodgers’ potent lineup down by escaping precarious positions in the third and fourth innings after Freddie Freeman’s homer three batters in gave the Dodgers the lead essentially fro the game’s start.
