Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has declared a state of emergency in several counties hit by heavy lake effect snow, with more than 50 inches of snow in some areas. Additional storms and hazards are forecast.
In response to lake effect snow accumulations as deep as 5 feet, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine declared a state of emergency in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties. Homeowners in Ashtabula are clearing streets covered by more than 50 inches of snow. Additional hazards such as snow squalls and wind gusts over 40 miles per hour are expected.
The governor's office anticipates more state resources will be needed as a new storm system approaches, bringing more snow and single-digit wind chills
