) - Multiple rounds of heavy rain have moved across the Gulf Coast over the last few days, leading to localized flooding and water-covered roads in some areas.
While Sunday should bring a brief break from widespread rain, saturated ground means flooding could quickly redevelop with additional heavy downpours. Another round of storms arrives Monday with the potential for heavy rainfall, localized flash flooding, and a few strong to severe storms possible. Rain chances will continue to gradually decrease through the evening as showers and storms slowly move offshore.
Low clouds, areas of fog, and damp conditions are expected overnight, especially north of I-10 where patchy fog could become locally dense at times. Temperatures will stay mild overnight in the mid to upper 60s. Most of Sunday looks mainly dry with a mix of clouds and sunshine. A few isolated showers or thunderstorms could develop during the afternoon heat, but many areas may stay rain-free for much of the day.
Another cluster of showers and storms could approach Sunday evening, although current expectations are for weakening storms as they move into the area. Highs will climb into the lower to middle 80s. Our next better chance for stronger storms arrives Monday as another disturbance and cold front move through the Gulf Coast. There remains uncertainty regarding how much instability and moisture can return before the system arrives, but a few strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall remain possible.
Localized flash flooding will also remain a concern through Monday. After Monday, rain chances drop off quickly with a much drier pattern expected through the rest of the week. Temperatures return to near or slightly above average with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 50s and 60s. Mary G.
