Those of us responsible for budgets have had to rub two pennies together before to try to make a dime, but I’ve never seen it this bad.
Kudos to Rep. Alyse Galvin and her colleagues for an excellent summary of the dismal funding situation for K-12 school districts in Alaska. Is it any wonder that families and individuals are rapidly leaving our state, when public education, public pensions, housing, and child care availability are in such dire straits?
I have worked in the K-12 school business for nearly 30 years. Thanks to Galvin for highlighting specific examples of how staff and supply shortages are leading toward a complete breakdown. I urge legislators to override Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s veto of education funding and then give some serious thought to what kind of education system is needed as the underpinning to Alaska’s economic and social success.to submit via any web browser.
