Back in 1986, Muppets' creator, Jim Henson, brought Labyrinth to the big screen. Labyrinth is a musical fantasy movie mixing actors with puppets that has now become a cult classic thanks to its story, strange settings, and eccentric characters, particularly David Bowie’s Jareth.
Labyrinth 2 Would Surely Beat The First Movie's Box Office Close Labyrinth didn’t do well with general audiences back then, either, grossing a total of $34 million worldwide against a budget of $25 million. Despite being a box office hit in the UK, Labyrinth ultimately became a box office flop. Luckily, time has been great to it, and it has now reached cult status and gained a large following, which is, in large part, why Labyrinth was able to expand to other media before it even got a sequel. After waiting for over three decades for it, Labyrinth 2 will obviously be powered by nostalgia, which can draw enough attention to it to make it an actual box office hit, despite its critical reception.
Labyrinth 2 Will Struggle To Capture The First Movie's Charm, Even If It's More Successful Labyrinth has a unique charm that won’t be easy to replicate in a sequel, but perhaps its biggest challenge is recasting Jareth. David Bowie passed away in 2016, and his performance as Jareth was so good that it’s among his best ones, and is considered by many the real heart of Labyrinth.
