Iron Dog officials promote safety along the race course to help reduce incidents on snowmachines.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Iron Dog snowmachine race is known for being the longest and toughest snowmachine race in the world. However, it’s also used as an opportunity to promote riding safety.
As racers push across the rural Alaskan frontier, ambassador teams trail behind to stop in villages along the route. In select villages, they provide both helmets and presentations on safe riding practices. The importance of the presentations and handing out of helmets, 500 of which will be provided this year, is paramount for the folks in the villages.
