Republicans have begun to cast doubt on the merits of the impeachment probe after multiple witnesses have testified that the president had no involvement in his father’s business dealings and others have been discredited. Rep. Ken Buck’s, R-Colo., announcement Tuesday that he is leaving Congress at the end of next week injects further uncertainty into the fate of the impeachment probe, leaving Republicans with a 218-213 majority in the House, meaning they can afford to lose just two seats to pass any legislation .
Comer, who is spearheading the impeachment effort, has also expressed uncertainty about inquiry, admitting it’s unlikely to result in a formal impeachment and instead casting it as a fact-finding mission that could result in legislative reforms to tamp down on influence-peddling.
