Published: Feb. 8, 2024 at 5:41 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Former University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department Deputy Chief Alana Malloy is battling to continue her suit against the school on claims her termination was retaliatory.

The deputy chief began her civil case against the university following an email from UAFPD Chief Cathy Catron on May 24, 2023, notifying Malloy that she could choose between accepting a demotion or getting laid off due to “reorganization” of the department.According to the general allegations section of the original complaint, the email in question came after Malloy had observed dubious behavior in the department and confronted Catron about it on multiple occasions to no avail.

The suit mentions another purported incident from January 2023 during which a department dispatcher, Temple Dillard, illegally fired his weapon within the dispatch center. She began a civil case against the City of Fairbanks in May 2021, alleging FPD leadership had subjected her to inappropriate questioning about her sex life while she was in a relationship with a fellow officer, Avery Thompson.
